DIY Home Office Remodel on a Budget- 5 Tips Checklist
Every small business owner/entrepreneur deserves a dedicated space to “Make the Vision Happen”. Whether it's a small space in your home, a section of your bedroom or even a spare bedroom; you need a dedicated area to allow your creative juices to flow.
Luckily we have an extra guest bedroom in our home which I’ve been able to transform into my home office/studio. It's a small space but it's just enough room to make it both multi-functional and inspiring vs my comfy bed. Here are 5 Tips to get you started on your remodeling:
☑What do you need out of this space?
I run multiple businesses from e-commerce, to blog content & video production. Naturally I would need several spaces to dedicate to filming, a desk to write and produce blog content/ handle conference calls for business, shipping area for orders and a leisure area to get me moving away from my desk after so many hours.
☑How much space do you have to work with?
Now that we’ve identified our needs, it's time to figure out just how much space we have to work with. If you have a dedicated room or space, clear the room of all furniture, items, wall decor; we want to start with a fresh slate to really see our vision. Take measurements of the space for reference when purchasing new office decor & furniture.
☑What theme or Mood would you like to set?
It’s time to set the tone! Are you looking for a super girly touch, fairy lights for a calm mood, or tons of images of your favorite idols for inspiration? Develop a color palette & theme to follow for your new space.
☑What’s your Budget?
Because we are renting at the moment, I didn't want to spend too much time or money into my office as I know this is a temporary space and will be remodeled again shortly. Instead of purchasing a window seat or futon, I decided to opt for a DIY solution which would not only save me some extra cash but would also spare me some space in the room.
☑The Perfect Vehicle!
There are 3 things you should look for in your vehicle of choice for such a large project as remodeling:
Comfort
Storage
and Convenience
Unless you are remodeling a large room, a U-Haul may not be necessary as opposed to an SUV. This week I got to test drive the 2016 Kia Sorento SX FWD. I figured it would be the perfect vehicle for my much needed IKEA run! From entertainment and comfort options to unlimited space the Kia Sorento was ideal for my remodel.
Some of my favorite features were the Blind Spot Detection System, Rear Camera Display, Rapid Charge USB Ports, Bluetooth, Folding Rear Seats and my absolute favorite: Hands Free Trunk Access!
Remodeling can be stressful but with the perfect vehicle, a plan of action and a vision, it can easily be done without breaking the bank! Grab your best handy friends and make your remodeling experience fun and enjoyable. The more the merrier. You'll appreciate your dedicated workspace later. Your productivity will be limitless!
